Oral, Maxillofacial and Implant Surgeon

Dr. Lawrence Levin

Dr. Lawrence Levin is originally from the Philadelphia area. He attended Tufts University in Boston for his undergraduate degree. He graduated summa cum laude in 1983 with his bachelor’s degree in biology. Growing up, Dr. Levin always knew he wanted to be a dentist. When he was comparing dental schools and programs, he also considered going to medical school because he wanted to find a way to combine both professions. Fortunately, he found a dual degree program at the University of Pennsylvania, so he returned home to complete his education close to family. Dr. Levin graduated first in his class when he earned his dental degree in 1986, finishing a year early. He then completed his medical degree in 1989.

Once he completed his education, Dr. Lawrence Levin was required to complete a general surgery internship and an oral and maxillofacial residency. After his training was finished, he decided to stay at the University of Pennsylvania. He stayed on as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery where he served as Division Chief and Interim Chairman. Dr. Levin has has also served as Chief of Oral Surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for over 20 years. Within this academic environment, he gained extensive experience with more difficult procedures.

Dr. Levin attained the rank of Emeritus Professor at Penn. He joined the By Design Dental team in order to shift from the research and lecture side of oral and maxillofacial surgery, allowing him to focus on the clinical side. He performs tooth extractions, placement of dental implants, biopsies, bone grafting, and orthognathic surgery. He treats patients of all ages and enjoys making people feel better both physically and emotionally with treatment.
